2018 GMC Canyon Review, Changes and Updates

The GMC Canyon was introduced in 2004 alongside the popular Chevrolet Colorado. The two compact pickup trucks, which are pretty similar, were designed to replace GMC Sonoma and Chevrolet S-10. Since the debut year, a few Canyon models have been produced and the good thing is that much better models will be unveiled in the future. The American automobile manufacturer has already announced that it will be releasing the 2018 GMC Canyon in a year’s time.

The new Canyon is likely to be built on the GMT 31XX platform. If it gets this design platform, expect a pickup truck with innovative exterior features that will give the car a stylish look. Similar to the outgoing model, the new model will get an aggressive and masculine body. The automaker will use aluminum and steel in the construction work, something which will make the car lighter and stronger. In the front end, the 2018 GMC Canyon will spot a mesh grille, HID headlights and LED DRLs. The sides will look beautiful with chromed mirrors, shiny door handles and 20-inch aluminum wheels. In the rear end, the car will get a more spacious cargo box with a spray-in bed liner, a bigger bumper, and a stylish exhaust tip.

In the interior, the 2018 GMC Canyon will have leather upholstery on the seats, dashboard and steering wheel. Other materials expected to find their way in the cabin are wood and aluminum. There will be enough space below and around the seats creating ample leg and shoulder room. The floor will get classic and durable mats.

When it comes to technology, the pickup truck is expected to get the GMC IntelliLink system which features a colored screen display, a navigation unit and smartphone integration with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. The car will also get 4G LTE connectivity, USB ports, Wi-Fi hotspot and automatic climate control.

There will be two engine choices for the GMC pickup truck. The first choice will be a 3.6-liter V6 engine capable of dissipating 305 hp and 269 lb-ft. The other choice will be a 2.8-liter Duramax I4 capable of producing 181 hp and 369 lb-ft. The two drivetrains will be paired with a 6-speed automatic system which will transmit power to all wheels. With the most powerful engine, the car will take 7.0 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph. The same engine will give the car a towing & payload capacity of 7,000 lbs & 1,590 respectively. The vehicle will record around 21 mpg in cities and 28 mpg on highways with the 2.4-liter engine and 18 mpg in cities and 24 mpg on highways with the 3.6-liter engine. In addition, the two engines will record reduced CO2 emission rates.

Safety and Security

The upcoming 2018 GMC Canyon will be fitted with a wide range of protection features and equipment to keep it safe and secure. There will be a lane departure warning system, ABS, forward collision alert, airbags, rearview camera, reverse sensing system, adaptive cruise control, seatbelts, blind-spot monitors, parking assist and hill-descent control, among others.

The new 2018 GMC Canyon compact pickup truck will be fairly priced. The base model will go for $22,000 and the top premium model for around $32,000. Concerning the release date, the car will hit the market in 2017.
